Career Architect System (R)

A Product of Lominger Ltd.

A MULTIPURPOSE TOOL FOR DEVELOPING LEADERS

In today's increasingly competitive business environment, finding and developing top-notch individual and managerial talent is a major challenge. Before investing time and money in development programs, it's essential to understand what will and won't work. What separates successful managers and executives from those who fail? What are the key experiences of successful managers? What do they learn and how do they learn it? How can what they've learned be meaningfully applied to your career or the career of others?

WHAT IS IT?

A COMPREHENSIVE AND RESEARCH-SUPPORTED SOLUTION based on multiple research projects and assessment studies, The CAREER ARCHITECT® contains 67 'developable' Core Competencies and Characteristics which research indicates are important to work success - as well as 19 Career Stallers and Stoppers which can have a chilling effect on performance.

After a needs assessment, The CAREER ARCHITECT® identifies proven methods through which any of these 67 Core Competencies and Characteristics can be learned, honed, and refined through a variety of developmental remedies. A comprehensive tool for planning and managing the development of individual contributors, managers, executives, and leaders, The CAREER ARCHITECT® is designed to complement and strengthen your current methods and philosophies.

In fact, The CAREER ARCHITECT® can help you move toward integrating all of your organization's human resource processes, tying together performance appraisal, succession planning, development planning, job specification, and interviewee assessment.

MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS FOR ORGANIZATIONS LARGE AND SMALL

Regardless of the size of your organization, The CAREER ARCHITECT® fills a number of vital development needs. First and foremost, The CAREER ARCHITECT® helps individuals perform personal assessments and then creates comprehensive short- and long-term development plans customized for their particular needs.

The CAREER ARCHITECT® can also be used in workshops and for one-on-one counseling. For new human resources professionals, The CAREER ARCHITECT® provides instant expert knowledge that usually takes years of on-the-job training to develop, such as:

  • Job specification and employee interviewing
  • Team assessment and team building
  • Development planning
  • Competency profiling and success modeling
  • Needs analysis and curriculum development
  • Succession planning
  • Performance evaluations
  • Workshops
  • Outplacement counseling

BUILDING DEVELOPMENT PLANS IN TWO EASY STEPS

The CAREER ARCHITECT® Expert System provides a systematic approach to creating three- to five-year development plans:

Step One: The first step in creating a development plan is selecting a skill or set of skills that require development. You can assess yourself or others in a variety of ways using:

  • PORTFOLIO SORT® Cards or The COMPETENCY ARCHITECT® Sort Cards
  • VOICES: The FEEDBACK ARCHITECT®, Lominger's electronic 360? questionnaire
  • The results of any other commercially available assessment product which has been 'translated' into CAREER ARCHITECT® competencies.

Regardless of the assessment tool you use to determine the need or needs you want to address, The CAREER ARCHITECT® helps you build an effective development plan customized for you and your organization's needs.

Step Two: Having selected skills or needs to develop, The CAREER ARCHITECT® User's Manual provides step-by-step instructions for completing a customized three- to five-year development plan using one of two sets of Planning and Reference Books.

The Planning Book of The CAREER ARCHITECT ® provides specific suggestions for developing the 67 Core Competencies and Characteristics and countering the 19 Career Stallers and Stoppers found in the PORTFOLIO SORT'® Cards. The Planning Book also directs you to developmental suggestions found in the Reference Book and other sources.

The Reference Book of The CAREER ARCHITECT ® provides data that helps lead users through a process of creating three- to five-year development plans which describe the specific remedies needed to develop specific skills.

Divided into nine sections, the Reference Book provides information about selecting and learning from courses, other people, feedback, hardships, develop-in-place assignments, and job assignments, all linked back to the PORTFOLIO SORT® Card competencies.

  • Of special importance are two sections providing job based development: the Develop-ln-Place section describes 135 on- and off-the-job assignments, projects, and tasks that build the 67 Core Competencies and Characteristics or help turn around the 19 Career Stallers and Stoppers.
  • The Full Jobs section shows which of 13 types of jobs would best develop each competency.
  • The Learning Boosters section provides scores of methods or tips to help you learn more effectively from the development plan you create.

The CAREER ARCHITECT® Expert System can be used by individuals working alone on themselves or others, in workshops, and for one-on-one counseling.
